CA Fresher Resume Format 2026: India Template + Example
The CA fresher resume format that gets shortlisted: articleship written like real experience, qualifications recruiters filter on, a full example, and mistakes to avoid.

Skip the formatting — build it on a template that is already ATS-safe.
Build free resumeCA articleship gives freshers something most graduates lack: three years of real client work. Yet most CA fresher resumes bury it under generic objectives and a list of every subject ever studied. Here is the CA fresher resume format that gets shortlisted for Big 4, industry, and startup finance roles - with a full example.
The format at a glance
| Section | What to put | Space |
|---|---|---|
| Header | Name, phone, email, city, LinkedIn, membership number | 2 lines |
| Summary | Attempts, rank if any, articleship firm and domain | 2-3 lines |
| Qualifications | CA Final/Inter with year and attempts, plus graduation | 4-5 lines |
| Articleship | Client types, work areas, outcomes with numbers | Bulk of page |
| Skills + certifications | Tools, standards, relevant courses | 3-4 lines |
One page, single column, no photo - the same ATS-friendly format rules apply, including for Big 4 portals that parse resumes automatically.
Summary: attempts and articleship up front
Recruiters scan for two things first: how many attempts, and where you did articleship. Put both in the summary:
- Weak: "A dedicated and sincere chartered accountant seeking an opportunity to utilise my skills and grow with a reputed organisation."
- Strong: "Newly qualified CA (Final, Nov 2025, first attempt) with articleship at a mid-size firm, focused on statutory audits of manufacturing clients with turnover up to Rs 500 crore. Handled 12+ audit engagements end to end and IND AS transitions for 3 clients."
If you cleared with a rank or in the first attempt, say it in the first line - it is the single strongest signal on a CA fresher resume. If it took multiple attempts, do not hide it; the articleship detail carries you instead.
Articleship: write it like experience, because it is
The mistake most freshers make: listing subjects ("auditing, taxation, accounts") instead of work. Use the same bullet formula as any experienced hire - action, scope, outcome:
- "Conducted statutory audits for 12+ manufacturing and trading clients (turnover Rs 20-500 crore), leading fieldwork for 4 engagements independently in the final year."
- "Prepared and reviewed GSTR-1, GSTR-3B, and annual returns for 20+ clients; identified ITC mismatches recovering Rs 18 lakh for one manufacturing client."
- "Executed stock and receivable audits for bank-assigned borrowers, flagging diversion risks that led to limit revision for 2 accounts."
- "Drafted IND AS convergence adjustments for 3 first-time-adoption clients, including lease accounting under IND AS 116."
Name client industries and turnover bands, not client names (confidentiality holds even on a resume). Numbers - engagements handled, clients, amounts - are what separate you from the pile.
Qualifications: the details recruiters filter on
CA Final - Nov 2025, first attempt (AIR 42, if applicable)
CA Intermediate - May 2023, first attempt
B.Com - 2024, Mumbai University, 78%
ICAI Membership No. - 6XXXXX
List attempts honestly. Big 4 firms filter on first-attempt and rank for some tracks, but industry roles weigh articleship fit far more - a third-attempt CA with exactly relevant articleship beats a first-attempt CA from an unrelated domain for the right role.
Skills: tools and standards, not soft skills
Standards: IND AS, AS, SA, Income Tax Act, GST law
Tools: Tally Prime, SAP FICO (end-user), Excel (pivot tables, lookups), Genius/Winman, CaseWare basics
Work areas: statutory audit, internal audit, direct tax compliance, GST returns, IND AS transition
Mirror the exact terms from the job posting - "IND AS" and "Ind-AS" can score differently in ATS filters. How resume keywords work explains the matching logic.

Common mistakes on CA fresher resumes
- The objective paragraph. "To work in a challenging environment..." wastes the most valuable three lines on the page. A summary with attempts and articleship does the job.
- Subject lists instead of work. Every CA studied the same syllabus; what you did during articleship is the differentiator.
- Naming audit clients. Confidentiality applies to your resume too - industry and turnover bands convey the same signal professionally.
- Inflating articleship roles. Interviewers from practice backgrounds will probe every claim for specifics. Write only what you personally executed or can explain end to end.
- Design-heavy templates. Creative formatting reads poorly in finance - and scrambles in ATS parsers, as two-column resumes and ATS shows.

FAQ
Should I mention my attempts if it took more than one?
You cannot hide it - employers verify against ICAI records, and the year of passing reveals gaps anyway. State the facts plainly and let articleship strength and interview performance carry the rest.
Is a rank worth restructuring the resume around?
Yes. An All India Rank is the strongest single credential a CA fresher has - put it in the summary, the qualifications, and your LinkedIn headline.
How do I target industry roles instead of audit?
Reweight the bullets toward compliance, MIS, costing, and business-facing work, and cut pure audit procedure detail. The resume format stays identical - the emphasis shifts. See how to tailor your resume to a job description.
One page or two?
One page. A fresher resume that needs two pages is a one-page resume with padding. Ideal resume length for India has the data.
