SSC MTS Syllabus 2025: Session-Wise Subjects, Marks and Exam Scheme
The complete SSC MTS syllabus from the official 2025 notification: Session-I maths and reasoning (no negative marking), Session-II GK and English (1 mark per wrong answer), plus Havaldar PET/PST.

The SSC MTS syllabus is set at 10th-standard level and is tested through a single Computer Based Examination split into two mandatory sessions on the same day: Session-I covers Numerical and Mathematical Ability plus Reasoning (no negative marking), and Session-II covers General Awareness plus English (one mark deducted per wrong answer). This guide lays out the full syllabus and exam scheme from the official SSC MTS 2025 notification, so you know exactly what to prepare and how the paper is structured.
How the SSC MTS exam is structured
The official 2025 notification defines one Computer Based Examination (CBE) for Multi-Tasking Staff. Candidates for Havaldar in CBIC and CBN take the same CBE, plus a Physical Efficiency Test (PET) and Physical Standard Test (PST) later. The CBE runs in two sessions, both compulsory:
| Session | Subject | Questions / Marks | Time | Negative marking |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Session-I | Numerical and Mathematical Ability | 20 / 60 | 45 minutes | None |
| Session-I | Reasoning Ability and Problem Solving | 20 / 60 | ||
| Session-II | General Awareness | 25 / 75 | 45 minutes | 1 mark per wrong answer |
| Session-II | English Language and Comprehension | 25 / 75 |
Session-I auto-closes after 45 minutes and Session-II starts immediately. Candidates eligible for scribes get 60 minutes per session. If the exam runs in multiple shifts, marks are normalized using the Commission's published formula (notice dated 2 June 2025), and normalized scores decide merit. The paper is set in Hindi, English and 13 regional languages for Session-I and the General Awareness part of Session-II.
Session-I syllabus: Numerical and Mathematical Ability
The notification lists these topics (10th-standard level):
- Integers and whole numbers, LCM and HCF, decimals and fractions, relationship between numbers

- Percentage, ratio and proportion, direct and inverse proportion
- Work and time, distance and time, averages
- Simple interest, profit and loss, discount
- Area and perimeter of basic geometric figures, lines and angles
- Interpretation of simple graphs and data, squares and square roots
Since there is no negative marking in this session, attempt every question - blanks score zero, guesses can only help.
Session-I syllabus: Reasoning Ability and Problem Solving
Listed topics:
- Alpha-numeric series, coding and decoding, analogy
- Following directions, similarities and differences, jumbling
- Problem solving and analysis
- Non-verbal reasoning based on diagrams

Session-II syllabus: General Awareness
The broad coverage is social studies - history, geography, art and culture, civics, economics - plus general science and environmental studies, all up to 10th-standard level. This is the widest section; regular newspaper reading plus an NCERT-level summary book covers most of it.
Session-II syllabus: English Language and Comprehension
Basics of English: vocabulary, grammar, sentence structure, synonyms, antonyms and correct usage, plus a simple comprehension paragraph with questions. Candidates with 40% or more visual disability get no maps, graphs, diagrams or statistical data questions in the paper.
Havaldar PET/PST standards
