Interview call tomorrow and almost no time? You can still walk in prepared - this is how to prepare for an interview in one day. One focused day beats a week of vague worry. Here is an hour-by-hour plan that covers research, answers and logistics.

Hour 1: research the company

Read the About page, recent news, products, and the job description. Note what the company sells, who its customers are, and one recent development. Look up your interviewers on LinkedIn. This feeds answers like why do you want this job.

Hour 2: match your resume to the role

Highlight five job post requirements and write one proof point for each, from your resume. The method in tailoring your resume to a job description helps. Re-read every line of your resume, because anything on it is fair game.

Hours 3-4: prepare the questions that always come

  1. Tell me about yourself: 60-90 seconds, present-past-future.
  2. Strengths and weakness: one real example each.
  3. Why should we hire you: three skills, one proof.
  4. Expected CTC: a researched range.
  5. A failure and a conflict story, using the STAR method.

Write bullet points, not scripts. Scripts sound robotic and fall apart when the question changes.

Hour 5: role-specific prep

For technical roles, revise your three strongest projects and core concepts; see technical interview questions for freshers. For HR or business roles, prepare two work stories with numbers. For sales or support roles, rehearse a pitch.

Hour 6: mock interview

Say your answers aloud, ideally to a friend or recorded on your phone. Watch for filler words, long pauses and rambling. Cut every answer to under two minutes. Practise your questions to ask the interviewer too, and prepare two.

Evening: logistics

  • Print or save the job post, resume copies and ID proof.
  • Check route and travel time, or test your video link, camera and audio.
  • Lay out clean, simple clothes.
  • Sleep by 11 pm. Rest helps more than extra revision.

On the day

Arrive 15 minutes early. Greet everyone politely, keep answers specific, and ask thoughtful questions. After the interview send a short thank-you email the same evening.

If your interview is online

Test your internet, camera and microphone an hour early. Sit facing a window or lamp, keep your resume open on a second screen, and silence phone notifications. Look at the camera when you answer, not at your own face. Keep a glass of water nearby, and keep a charger plugged in. Have a backup plan such as mobile hotspot in case your broadband drops.

Make your resume interview-ready tonight

Every line on your resume is a question waiting to be asked. Before the interview, make sure each bullet has a number and a story you can tell in 60 seconds. Use the job post as your checklist.
